The roads don't love you
We got a brief respite from the interstates today, crossing Indiana diagonally on small state roads, "blue highways" as William Least Heat Moon put it. It's slow-going, but there's a lot more to look at and when you drive under 55 the roar of the van's engine is not completely deafening, so we can listen to music without giving ourselves migraines. Right now it's Magnetic Fields 'The Charm of the Highway Strip' which is the perfect soundtrack for the morning drive. I picked it up yesterday at Shake It Records in Cincinnati, which is one of greatest record stores I've ever been in. It's a huge space, completely crammed with booksrecordsmagazinesvinylmovies, with lots of inviting nooks and crannies to get lost in. I could have spent a month in there. We all bought a bunch of new tunes.
Of course, we ended up there on the recommendation of our good friends at WOXY, where we did a live session yesterday. It was great to be back there. Anyone reading this probably already knows about woxy.com, the best internet radio station going. You can download a podcast with our performance from their site, and please make a donation while you're there. We want them to be around for a long time so we can keep coming back.
