last couple of days...

pittsburgh: brillobox, fun club. thank you to Charlie for putting the show together, and Hopewell and Shade who played with us. My little brother came and impressed the ladies with his dance moves. Saw some old friends from erie, Brian and Glen.
Stayed with Drew and Nicole again, they made us pizza from scratch at three in the morning, and then pancakes when we woke up. Thank you guys, we love you.

columbus: I bought a 4 foot broadsword from a wiccan shop down the street from the club. the only way to top this is to somehow obtain a live black market animal, like a tiger or monkey of some sort. Celebrity Pilots were great as usual, good to see them again. Thanks to Robert for setting up the show.

also, thank you to Hilary and Dawn who put us up for the night and took us to "ladie's eighties" night. DJ danced with men until dawn. also saw the sam champion dudes, they played across the street. good times.

lansing: fun show, good crowd. thank you to Pop Project and Aloha. we had a rough time onstage, as usual, but it was still fun. we're at a hampton inn somewhere. we backed the van up against a lightpole in lieu of recent mishaps that claimed some friends' entire van full of equipment. shitty.

chicago tomorrow, with psychic ills and sareena maneesh. defintiely a fun show in store for us.

must sleep.

Sign the guestbook

Marty Boratin is an archeologist in Buffalo New York who held a side job for many years booking the local rock club Mohawk's. He no longer does the booking, but he he and his wife Susan still go out to most of the shows, and still put up the touring bands at their large house out in the country. There were plenty of comfortable beds and couches to go around and we woke up to a delicious breakfast of huevos rancheros. Marty keeps guestbooks for all the bands to sign, going back more than a decade. These were surreal to leaf through -- plenty of superstars have signed the book (Fugazi, the Goo Goo Dolls), there were sentimental favorites of mine (The Cocktails, Jack Logan) and page after page of bands I've never heard of (The Molly's, Stateside). Which begs the question: when some young band is leafing through Marty's old guestbooks in 2016 and stumble across the Dirty on Purpose entry (a picture that Joe drew of DJ as a unicorn, clutching a beer), which category will we fall into?

DIRTY ON PURPOSE TOUR 2006

That photo is from Frank by the way. Thanks Frank!

Cats!

Nearly everyone we have ever stayed with on the road has cats. I don't know what the connection is between being a cat person and being the sort of person to gladly invite four poor smelly rockers into their home, but it's a pretty reliable rule of thumb. Jocelyn and Dave in Boston have a cat who crawls into plastic bags so that she can be swung around the room. Victor in Montreal has a cat, Pooka, that is as fat and hairy as a bear cub, which seems to serve him well for the Canadian winter. Now we're hanging out at Marty and Susan's place in Buffalo, where they have two hunter cats patrolling their huge yard.

whatever hippie, let's see who's all greenpeace when your pansy ass gets into a mess you can't handle with some bikers in the middle of nowhere and I come to the rescue with my "weird shit".

Armed, dangerous

Joe buys weird shit everytime we stop. He bought a space pen at Staples in Boston, so he can write lying down in the van. Today he bought a sling-shot at a Wal-Mart in Ontario. They told us in film class in college that when a gun makes an appearance in the first act of the film it will be fired in the last act. I think that will be the case with the sling-shot: it's fun for shits and giggles right now, but someone's going to lose an eye before we're home.

still cold.

Canada. a cold desolate land. full of danger. I have purchased a high powered slingshot. I had to, I've wanted one since third grade and it was $6.99 at wal-mart.

George is subsisting on twizzlers and cigarrettes mainly.

Jocelyn and Dave put us up in boston, thanks dudes.

Victor let us crash in Montreal, very nice guy as well.
Canada Dave took us for breakfast this morning before he had to go to work. we were supposed to go to "sexy breakfast" which is topless waitresses, but we didn't have time to look up where it was. so we roughed it.

Now we're in toronto. this club is enormous and will be more than adequate to contain the three fans we have here.
but the sound guy is really nice and they have an unprotected wireless hookup. sweet.

anyway, off to buffalo tomorrow. over and out.

that time of year again. we head out tomorrow, to boston.
hope to see you all soon.
